A Note on Free Web Hosting

There are literally thousands of places to get Free web hosting. Maybe you already have one. Are you happy with it? Do you wish you could do away with the advertising you must put up with?

There a number of reasons why you should not use free web hosting. If you only have a personal website for friends or family, than a free website is fine. However, if you are trying to sell a product or attract people to your website, it is a bad idea. Here is why.

1. Free Websites have no guarantee. They may be here today gone tomorrow.

2. Free websites usually put ads on their website, making your website look like an advertising medium for who knows what product.

3. Who is going to

remember the long domain name.

4. A personalized business domain name is much easier to remember.

5. If I am interested in your service or product, and you have a free website, I am assuming that you are not offering a serious product or service.

A Few Benefits of Affordable Web Hosting

A Few Benefits of Affordable Web Hosting

There are many web hosting providers offering incredibly low prices in the web hosting industry today. It is amazing to see how times have changed. Looking back to even just ten years ago, web hosting could run in the hundreds of dollars for each month of service. Today, people are getting web hosting for less than ten dollars a month. The prices definitely have gone down but how about the service and quality of the web hosting? Let's take a look at what are some of the positives of selecting an affordable web hosting provider.

What you get from affordable web hosting

The most obvious benefit of affordable web hosting is the low price. Typically, the price will be less than $9 a month. This is a major plus for a majority of webmasters with web sites right now. They are now able to have web sites without pay a ton of money each month. Now, they can quit their second job that they needed to pay for the web hosting service.

Another benefit to affordable web hosting is that you personally have more control over your site. Basically, we are looking at a "self service" type of hosting where much of the control over your web site is controlled by you and not by the web hosting provider. This allows greater and faster updates to your web site. You don't have to wait for someone from the company to make the changes or additions and then make it all live. You can decide on the update schedule and even make corrections as you work. So now designing and uploading sites just takes minutes instead of days of waiting for the web hosting provider to make the changes for you.

A new

standard that is beginning to show up more among affordable web hosting providers is the ability to host multiple web sites from just one hosting account. So let's say for example you are paying $8 a month for web hosting by a provider that offers this multiple web site hosting plan. If you decide to create 3 more web sites and host from the same account, in essence, it will be like only paying $2 a month for each web site.

Many affordable web hosting providers are doing other things like adding extra features and increasing resources to get you to select them as your choice for affordable web hosting. Competition has always been good for customers and in the case of web hosting this still holds true. So now, customers are getting a lot more for the low price. This is definitely a good thing.

When in doubt...seek help in selecting an affordable web host In conclusion, these are just a few of the benefits that are available to webmasters willing to take a chance on affordable web hosting. Of course, each individual hosting provider will have some features that make them better than others so it is a good idea to shop around. To help in the selection process for a web hosting, you may consider checking out web hosting review sites to help you make an informed decision on the affordable web hosting provider that has everything you need.

5 Minute Guide to Web Hosting for Beginners

Seasoned webmasters can easily setup a new website in minutes with one of their preferred hosting companies. Novice webmasters are often confused by the various web hosting plans - affordable web hosting, Cheap Web hosting, A SP Web Hosting, Budget Hosting, Dedicated Servers, eCommerce Hosting, FrontPage Web Hosting, Hosting With Templates, Managed Web Hosting, PHP Web Hosting, Reseller Hosting, Shared Hosting, Unix / Linux Hosting, Virtual Private Servers, Windows Hosting and Co-location Hosting.

There're really a few things to look at while choosing a web hosting plan whether you run a hobby site, a small business site, or a high-traffic ecommerce site. In fact, all web hosting plans and terminologies can be classified in terms of cost, programming languages, operation systems, Web servers and functionality.

Cost - Cost of web hosting is the first thing that many small site owners are looking for. Most of web hosting plans cost less than $10 a month. Affordable web hosting, budget hosting or cheap web hosting plan often cost less than $5 per month.

Programming Languages - Whether you want to write your own scripts or install customized software packages, you want to choose the hosting plans that support the programming languages of your choice. The commonly used Web development languages include PHP, ASP, JSP and PERL. The hosting plans that support those programming languages are referred as PHP Web hosting, ASP Web hosting, JSP Web hosting or PERL Web hosting. Almost all hosting companies support PHP/MySQL, but only a fraction of them support ASP or JSP. For beginners, PHP/MySQL is the choice for programming language.

Operating Systems - Once you've picked up the programming language(s) for your Web development, you still have freedom to choose the operating system that hosts your Websites. Besides ASP which works only on Microsoft Windows, other programming languages, PHP, JSP and PERL, work on Windows, Unix and Linux. Hosting plans that support particular operating systems are referred as Window Hosting, Unix Hosting or Linux hosting.

Servers - Apache is the most widely supported Web server in Web hosting industry. One of nice things about Apache server is the ability of

mod_rewrite to make dynamic URL look like static URL or SEO-friendly among other things. ASP works only on Mirosoft Internet Information Server or IIS server. Weblogic or Websphere is needed for JSP hosting.

Performance - When webmasters are talking about Web servers, they're most interested in the server performance - Managed Web Hosting, Shared Hosting, Dedicated Servers, or Virtual Private Servers (VPS). Shared hosting is the cheapest plan, and you can host as many sites as you like with a Reseller Hosting option. VPS costs around $50 a month, and Dedicated Server plan will cost from $50 - $100 or more a month dependent on storage space and bandwidth of the hosting plan. A shared hosting is good enough for most of websites. If your website serves heavy audio/video files, or needs to frequently install customized software package, you'll need a dedicated server. For example, a company that sells Computer Based Training (CBT) software online upgraded its hosting plan from a shared hosting to a dedicated hosting plan in the first 6 months of online operation as the company started to use video/audio support to boost online sales.

Online Transaction Support - Websites that accept payment online require support of secure connection (HTTPS) and digital certification to conduct online transaction safely. The alternative of having your own online merchant account is to use a third party payment processor for payment process. Integration of paypal shopping cart only takes about a few minutes without any knowledge of programming skills.

After all, choosing a web hosting plan that works for you isn't that complex, even for the beginners.

4 tips in choosing the right web hosting company.

4 tips for choosing a web hosting company.

When choosing a web hosting company there are many factors to consider.

1. Does the company offer telephone support?

Email support is always nice to have available, but you may already know how long it takes some people to reply to these. Getting someone on the 'phone when your site goes down will instantly make you feel better and get you the answers you need as quickly as you need them. A lot of bigger web hosting companies offer free support and often are available out of hours too. Phone support is a great benefit for any web hosting client.

2. What sort of history does the company have? How long has this company been in business?

Web hosting companies that have been in existence for less than a year may not be the best choice for you or your website. A hosting company with a proven track record and many happy clients is certainly a good sign and might work well for you. A lot of the larger hosting businesses will post customer testimonials on their site to reinforce the message.

3. What software does the company offer?

This varies widely

between web hosting companies. Now that I have used Cpanel I wouldn't want to be without it, mainly because I am used to it and now know what features it has and how to use most of them. It's a lot easier to stick with something you know than have to try switching to a new User Interface.

Are you designing your site with Frontpage?. If so, check your host supports this, as not all do.

Another area you may want to research is the supplied statistics. What sort of web statistics software is included with your web hosting account? Is, for example, Awstats included?

4. Fees.

I'd rather pay a little more for a full feature set and reliabilty than get the cheapest deal and have problems with server downtime, bandwith issues, etc. With hosting deals you usually get a level of service that is relative to the price you have paid.

Check that your prospective hosting company offers a refund service before signing up. Most quality ones do as they know they can deliver what they promise.
